Fine Restaurant to serve as hangout for UL alumni and their children
Mike Scelfo is trying something new, something he hopes will catch on with Sports oriented adults and their children in Lafayette Louisiana.
Scelfo, a former UL Ragin' Cajun football player, runs three day care centers in Lafayette as well as a drug screening company in Baton Rouge. When he turned his attention to the restaurant business, he had a special focus in mind.
The result is the Baja Sports Grill, which opened on May 23 2007 on Bertrand Drive across from the UL Athletic Complex.
"We wanted to make this a place for UL alumni to come visit and tell stories, to bring their kids before and after athletic events," Scelfo said. "That's where we want to go with it."
While alcoholic beverages will be served, Scelfo emphasized that he is seeking a family restaurant atmosphere and won't begin DJ and karaoke activities begin after 9 p.m. each evening.
Baja Sports Grill features numerous photos and artist's renderings of athletes and events through Ragin' Cajun men's and women's athletic history. There are over 18 televisions to provide widespread coverage of Sporting events.
"When we tailgate before UL games, we're usually cooking right over there," Scelfo said as he pointed across Bertrand Drive. "We thought this would be a great place for alumni and their kids to hang out.
